─ 120 ─1) Students are required to attend a guidance meeting in April and receive a briefing about a research schedule from the chairperson 2) Student advisor is determined at a faculty meeting. Students must notify the chairperson of the name of the advisor they chose during April of their 1st year. Those who have not chosen their advisor by then should consult with the chairperson. Students who want to change their advisor afterwards should consult with the chairperson and obtain the agreement of the advisor regarding the change. If students have any concerns about academic supervision, please contact the chairperson or graduate school Dean. 3) Students must register for “Academic Writing Ⅰ (Ph. D.)” and “Academic Writing Ⅱ (Ph. D.)” under the name of their respective advisors every semester for three years to obtain a total of 12 credits. 4) “Research Guidance” under the name of academic advisor is a noncredit course and registered every semester automatically. Students who entered after 2017 need to pass a total of 6 courses of Research Guidance. 5) Students who entered after 2018 need to register for a total of 3 advanced lectures or advanced seminars offered by the Graduate Program in Education and obtain a total of 6 credits. Students can register for a course twice with the same title taught by the same instructor, if the course contents change. The course credits will be counted towards graduation. 6) Students can attend elective courses of Master's program in Education and obtain credits. However, the earned credits will not be counted towards graduation (See p.115~116). 7) Students are expected to produce a research plan under the guidance of their advisor by October of the first year of their studies. A student's advisor will ask two faculty members in the Graduate Program in Education to join the student's Advisory Committee. 8) Students will schedule and attend the first Committee assessment meeting and receive feedback on their research plans. 9) Students who pass the first Committee assessment and publish two papers with academic journals, or have an agreement with the publisher(s) for the publication of their papers, can apply for the second Committee assessment. 10) Students who apply for the second Committee assessment are required to submit a 3 sets of research plan, a list of publications and oral presentations at academic conferences, and a copy of their publications to their advisors. 11) Students should submit a doctoral dissertation, in accordance with the Sophia University Graduate Program in Education Regulations concerning Ph.D. program.
