Overseas Active Learning Short Program “Learn from Africa”
Nine Sophia Students visit South Africa
From February 16 to March 2, nine Sophia students visited Cape Town and Pretoria in South Africa for Overseas Short Program lead by Professor Eri Yamazaki of Center for Global Education and Discovery.
Students attended lectures at University of Pretoria and visited historical/cultural facilities related to apartheid and also had opportunities to talk to people who know apartheid era in details including a prison officer who served former President Nelson Mandela. And with cooperation of local NGO/NPO, Sophia students had a chance to communicate with children at a kindergarten and a library in township (former racially segregated area). With exchanges with students of University of Pretoria and also with cultural experiences as to learning Cape Malay cooking, Sophia students were able to learn about South Africa from diversified viewpoints through this active learning program
