Sophia University conferring the Degree of Honorary Doctorate upon His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg
On Nov 27, Sophia University conferred the Degree of Honorary Doctorate upon His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. It is to commend his contribution in the area of the environment, the science as well as humanitarian aids worldwide. Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra and His Excellency Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich as well as the members of delegates and friends attended the ceremony.
In his speech The Grand Duke expressed his gratitude and shared his joy with his nation in receiving such Degree. The special tie between Sophia University and Luxembourg was also blessed by the history of Luxembourg and Father Dahlman, one of the founders of Sophia University as well as showing the respect for the contributions made by the Luxembourg national, Archbishop Hollerich for our university being mentioned.
The Grand Duke addressed that universities shall be a place not only to advance specialized studies but to experience diversity in multi-cultural environment and the relation between Sophia University and our partner university, University of Luxembourg shall be enhanced further by sharing such a common quality.
The Grand Duke also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the era of fast moving globalization with changes in our society, economy and environment corresponding to extended issues. In concluding his speech, The Grand Duke presented his strong belief for Sophia University in preparing leaders of next generation to build fairer world with its educational spirt “Men and Women for Others
Our relation with Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
Sophia University has been fostering close tie with Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In 2008, between Sophia University and University of Luxembourg, the student exchange partnership was concluded. In 2012, our first overseas satellite office was opened in University of Luxembourg. Also in 2010 the Degree of Honorary Doctorate was conferred to His Excellency Jean Claude Junker, former Prime Minister of Luxembourg and current President of the European Commission.
