Invited Visiting Professor Tony K.M.Shing from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, one of our partner institutions, succeeded in inventing new drug for Type 2 Diabetes. The outstanding results of his research have been published in Angewandte Chemie, a high-impact German chemistry journal and also widely featured in Hong Kong media.
Professor Shing is currently involved in the research of biologically active natural products and synthetic organic chemistry at Associate Professor Toyonobu Usuki's Laboratory of Department of Materials and Life Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology.
The Invited Visiting Faculty (IVF) program, which invites visiting professors from overseas institutions was established in 2005 to enhance the international quality of education and research at Sophia and also to meet with global standards. IVF contributes to our education and research by having lectures in foreign languages as well as facilitating academic exchanges with our students and our faculty members through seminars and workshops.
