Eligibility and Requirements
Eligible Applicant
An applicant must:
- Be a current student or graduate of a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree program outside of Japan. A high school student is not eligible for this program.
- Have completed at least a semester at the home university by the time of application. This applies only to an applicant who is currently a student.
- Submit ALL required documents to apply for the session by the designated application deadline.
Late applications will not be accepted.
Required documents
- An OFFICIAL Academic Transcript and a Grading Scale from the applicant’s home institution
The minimum GPA requirement is 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.
*If the official transcript is not written in English, please attach an English translation to the original transcript.
*The submitted transcript must include a record of at least one semester with grades.
*In case the official transcript is sent directly to our office from the applicant’s home university, it must arrive to the office before the application deadline.

The minimum required scores are as follows:
TOEFL/PBT: 550, TOEFL/iBT: 79, IELTS: 6.0
Following applicants are exempt from the English Proficiency Test Score requirement:
・An applicant whose native language is English.
・An applicant currently attending educational institution whose main language of instruction is English.
*In this case, please submit a screenshot or official documentation showing English is the primary language of instruction at home institution instead of English Proficiency Test Score.
Selection Process
Applications will be screened by Sophia short-term program committee based on the submitted documents.
