Short-term Programs

Sophia University offers January Session and two Summer Sessions for those who are interested in a short-term study at Sophia. Program participants are able to gain first-hand experience on many aspects of not only Japan, but also East Asian culture and society – witnessing the myriad of ways in which the cultures of the world are reflected in the maze-like urban landscape of Tokyo.

The Summer Sessions welcomed over 11,000 students from around the globe since its foundation in 1961, and many have gone on to pursue exciting careers related to Japan. These Sessions offer a rare opportunity for Japanese students and international students from abroad to gather, study, discuss, and reflect on Japan’s role as a member of East Asian region in the world.

First launched in 2013, January Session is also popular among our participants, consisting of courses which take participants to a journey through the world of Japanese language, culture and contemporary social issues.
