Monumenta Nipponica, a semiannual journal on Japanese culture and society, was founded in 1938, making it one of the oldest English-language academic journals in the field of Asian studies. Published by Sophia University, Tokyo, with the aim of providing a common platform for scholars of Japan throughout the world to present the results of their research, MN carries articles of original scholarship and translations in the fields of history, literature, art history, religion, thought, and anthropology.
