講義概要
/Course description
This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of a phenomenon that, in one form or another, impacts the lives of everyone today: globalization. In analyzing the complex dynamics of globalization we shall take a multi-dimensional interdisciplinary view that seeks to unveil the sometimes complementary, other times contradictory, driving forces of globalization in their many practical and theoretical manifestations.
This course seeks to stimulate students into developing an overall individual understanding of this phenomenon based not only on a critical assessment of the orthodox theoretical formulations but also particular global issues that range from environment, transnational organized crime and terrorism to population growth and migration. Firstly, we will define and analyze globalization in its multi-facetted political, economic, social and cultural aspects; secondly, we will critically review the "theories of globalization" which are trying to present a coherent view of this complex phenomenon; thirdly, we will discuss the most challenging global issues today, and fourthly, we will conclude with an analysis of the global actors, political structures and processes that are attempting to govern over these global challenges.
