Perspectives on Economic Development and Social Change
講義概要
/Course description
This course examines basic questions regarding poverty and wealth in the modern world. In the seminar students read and discuss articles by sociologically minded social scientists that address the following questions: Why are poor countries poor?  What should they do to turn their situation around?  What happens to countries and individuals when they move from being "backward" to being "modern"?  What does it mean to "develop" and be "modern," anyway?  What are the social effects of the process of worldwide economic, cultural and political integration called "globalization"/
