A Study of Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic Art in India |
講義概要 /Course description |
India is a country with a history dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization, which is several hundreds of years before Christ. The vast South Asian Sub-continent is dotted with magnificent temples, palaces, tombs, and ruins, all of which are full of beautiful paintings, sculptures, and other works of Art. While people may admire these many art objects, what many do not realize is that all of them have stories to tell, stories of love, heroism, hatred, passion, or betrayal. The beautiful Tajmahal for example is a monument built to commemorate the love of an emperor for his queen. In this course, the student will be introduced to many of these works of Art, and to the many beautiful myths, legends, or historical incidents that lie behind them.

その他/Others(in detail) :The students need to have a genuine love for the subject. The grades a student will get will depend not only on the results of the examination, but also on his or her behavior in the classroom and classroom participation. All sleeping, chatting, giggling, or any other type of unruly behavior will lead to a low grade. Whatever may be the reason, students are permitted to miss three lectures, but no more. Attendance will be taken daily after the third lecture.
