講義概要
/Course description
Designed to encourage and guide those students with a keen interest in literary expression, this course combines the writing of original works with critical analysis of contemporary short fiction. The interrelationship of writing and reading is emphasized throughout the course. By examining the work of professional writers, by engaging in constructive criticism in workshops, and by producing a considerable amount of creative writing, students will gain valuable insights into the art and craft of fiction. The creative aim is to produce imaginative writing that is aesthetically effective.

その他/Others(in detail) :There are four specific criteria for successful completion of this course. First, students must write on a regular basis. This will include keeping a journal, doing exploratory exercises, and completing four original stories. Each student must submit a portfolio of completed stories and other material on the final day of class. This portfolio will be the primary determinant of the final grade. Second, students must participate in class discussions involving close textual analysis of selected works of contemporary short fiction. Third, students must work with others in the class to improve strategies and skills. A significant amount of our class time will be devoted to workshop sessions, in which the ability to offer objective and constructive criticism will be prized. Fourth, and implicit in the items above, students must be present in class.
