講義概要 /Course description |
This course treats theatre as a performing art with focus on acting. This year students will enact 4 scenes from Inoue Hisashi's award-winning comedy, "The Adventures of Dogen" (1971), a musical comedy about the 13th century Zen master Dogen. Included are: the double role-playing of Dogen/ cultist, monks/psychiatrists, monk/ nurse, and monk/policeman; and four “songs” that need to be set to music or chanted. Good singers are very welcome. The class size is limited to 30 students. Students who matriculated before 2011 can repeat the course for graduation credit with the permission of the instructor.

その他/Others(in detail) :This course is different from other college courses in that 1) the work is based on "hands-on" experience and requires some out-of-class time (e.g. the lunch hour); 2) students are assigned different tasks and evaluated on their management of those tasks, rather than being graded for completing similar assignments (e.g. examinations, papers). The tasks range from acting, puppetry, costume/make-up, props construction, stage management, to review writing and AV work. Required Activities: 1. attendance; 2. preparation for stage work; 3. scene work; 4. participation in the enactments; 5. play review (3-5 pp); 6. team work (graded) Necessary Qualities: creativity, cooperation, a sense of humour, and endurance
