講義概要
/Course description
A seminar course aiming at examining the development of Japanese religion from the seventh century to the early twentieth century. In this course  religious developments are to be considered against social, economic, political, and cultural developments. Emphasis is placed on the religious life experienced by various classes of people rather than doctrinal developments. The participants are expected to have the knowledge about Japanese history, at least the outline of the social and political developments, from the seventh century to the twentieth century.
Students are expected to regularly attend the class, read an assigned reading and respond to the question about it before each class, and participate in class discussion about the topic of the class. They are required to give inclass oral presentation once or twice during the semester and write a final term paper.

The other assigned readings will be uploaded in the site of this course, HST445, Social Studies, FLA, in the moodle e-learning system. Participants of this course will be given the  password to enter the site of this course in the moodle in the first class.
