講義概要
/Course description
This class will survey Korean history from 1850 to 1950. The early part of this period is defined by Korea’s struggle to meet international challenges while preserving its traditional institutions. Failure to accomplish this resulted in the Korean peninsula’s incorporation into the Japanese empire. Following liberation Korea faced the challenges of national division and civil war. Understanding these themes requires our consideration of their domestic and global contexts, two major threads of the class.
