講義概要 ／Course description	This course provides an introduction to the study of women in Japan. By following a rough chronological order, we will investigate a wide range of women’s issues in terms of ideological constructions of womanhood. The course will offer an entry into the theory of women studies and also introduce tools to critically analyze cultural differences and gender differences while at the same time learning more about Japan’s history.

評価基準・割合 ／Evaluation	出席状況／Attendance　（20.0％） 授業参加／Class participation　（20.0％） レポート／Report　（60.0％） その他／Others(in detail)　：(1) Regular attendance and participation in class discussion. Those who miss seven classes for any reason will not receive credits for the course. (2) Students will write two essays, approximately 5-7 pages each, evaluating the material of the course. (3) Students will conduct two Turnitin peer reviews (will be explained in class). (4) Students will participate in weekly sectionals (will be explained in class) and give a presentation based on their contributions.
テキスト／Textbook	自由記述／Free Text　：The readings for this class are a combination of pdf-files on Moodle, and articles on JSTOR and Muse (indicated with an * in the detailed assigned readings below). Students should always bring the assigned readings to class for discussion.
