講義概要 /Course description |
A survey of the major political, economic, and cultural developments in China from Archaeological origins through 1600. This course is an introduction to Chinese history from the earliest archeological records through roughly 1600. It will provide you with an overview of the major political, intellectual, economic, and social events that shaped the course of several thousand years of Chinese history. To aid us in this endeavour, we will explore several key themes throughout the course. These include the changing nature of China’s relations with the world; China’s perception of its place in the world (from both inside and outside of China); the flow of goods, ideas, and beliefs in and out of China; China’s relations with its regional neighbors; the impact of foreign imperialism on Chinese culture and society. We will also trace the changing roles of women and the family in Chinese culture and society over time.
