講義概要 /Course description |
The course is designed to introduce students to several aspects of Western Civilization and will not only explore the Political History of Europe but also touch upon the Cultural and Religious aspects. Both Western and Eastern Europe will receive equal attention with frequent references to events in other parts of the world. Furthermore, topics will not be restricted to the History of Western Civilization in Europe but will branch off to other continents: a direct consequence of colonization. The assigned core readings are from the Spielvogel book (see below), all other materials – including lecture notes – will be made available on Moodle. The coursework will also rely on student presentations (one well-developed presentation per student per semester) – in addition to which – other information will be disclosed during the lectures, necessitating regular note-taking and attendance. Students are welcome to request additional reading materials both in English and Japanese.
