講義概要 ／Course description	This course deals with a variety of historical Chinese art forms from different periods.  These objects and paintings provide materials that aid us to comprehend the history of Chinese culture. Chinese objects regarded as works of art were not initially produced to be seen in museums.  Bronze vessels, jade carvings, ceramics and lacquer wares unearthed from the tomb sites carried ritual functions and often display common symbolic designs from which we learn original meanings of their production.  Objects made and preserved at temples usually have religious functions.  Paintings also were produced to serve various purposes.  The course places its emphasis on function and purpose in which these artistic objects were produced as well as their art historical development.  Museum trips will be scheduled during the term.

評価基準・割合 ／Evaluation	出席状況／Attendance　（10.0％） 授業参加／Class participation　（10.0％） 秋学期学期末試験（定期試験期間中）／Autumn Semester final exam(during exam period)　（50.0％） 中間試験／Mid-term exam　（30.0％） その他／Others(in detail)　：Course Requirements: *Mid-term Exam consisting of slide identifications and definitions of art historical terms. *Final Exam consisting of slide identifications from the second half of the course and two or three essay questions based on material from the whole term. *Attendance is mandatory.  Grades will be based on exams.  Improvement over the term will be taken into consideration in assigning the final grade.
