講義概要
/Course description
This class surveys Japanese sacred art from prehistory through the fifteenth century. We will look at painting, sculpture, architecture, and material culture that pertain to Buddhism, kami worship, and Buddha-kami combinatory practice. The study of these works brings to life religious, philosophical, and social developments in Japanese history. Some classes will be conducted in museums, schedule and enrollment permitting.
