A Window to Japan: Reflections on Sophia’s Summer SessionThroughout its history of over 50 years, Sophia University’s Summer Session in Asian Studies has offered courses on nearly all aspects of Japanese culture and society, as well as courses on the cultures and economies of countries throughout the East Asia region. Over the years, more than 10,000 stu-dents have participated in the program. Although university summer programs are now common in Japan, Sophia’s was the first such program and its history, breadth, and quality are unmatched.
