Moreover, he emphasized the importance of develop-ing interiority, getting rid of any precon-ceived ideas, dealing with things with a childlike purity, and developing the imagination. He gave advice to the stu-dents, saying, “It will prove very useful to get interested in and study academic disciplines outside the eld of your major and listen carefully to what others say.” His lively and humorous lecture with video clips of a debate and exercises captivated the audience from start to nish.On December 14, 2015, with the coor-dination of Ichiro Fujisaki, Distinguished Professor and International Strategic Advisor to Sophia University and for-mer Ambassador of Japan to the United States, a lecture and dialogue session called “Let’s talk with the world” was held with Samuel Potolicchio of Georgetown University as the guest speaker. Prof. Potolicchio received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Doctorate in Govern-ment from Georgetown and a Master’s in Theological Studies from Harvard. He was selected as one of “America’s Best 300 Professors” at the tender age of 29.The theme of the lecture was “Effec-tive Leadership in an Uncertain World.” Prof. Potolicchio discussed the neces-Above: Samuel J. Center staff with rich experience in international organiza-tions and faculty members who previ-ously worked for the United Nations, UNESCO, the Asian Development Bank and other organizations gathered under one roof. Yoshiaki Terumichi, Director of Human Resources Center for Interna-tional Cooperation, said, “There is a va-riety of options on the route to an active career in international cooperation. We would like to give you specic advice on the expertise, education, and experience required to approach complex and cross-disciplinary elds.”A commemorative symposium to cel-ebrate the establishment of the Human Resources Center for International Co-operation was held on April 23, 2016, with about 200 participants including students, community members and high school students interested in inter-national cooperation. The Center will build a system and advisory network to enable students to receive advice directly from those who are already working for international or-ganizations and engaging in frontline duties and will establish and manage human resources development pro-grams collaboratively with government ministries and agencies and interna-tional organizations both inside and outside Japan. There are many students at Sophia University who are interested in inter-national cooperation and international politics and want to work for an interna-tional organization to engage in interna-tional cooperation and other activities.
