【学習内容】

This is a reading, discussion and debate class, based on topics in Time magazine. This is a weekly magazine, but we will focus on one issue every three or four weeks, so we will probably buy three issues altogether. Each student will choose an article or feature that he or she is interested in and then present it to rest of the class. The teacher will help with vocabulary and more difficult expressions, and will help to lead discussion based on the issues and topics in the readings. There will probably be a wide range of both serious and more light-hearted topics, and it is hoped that discussion will be lively and interesting.

【学習方法】

It is hoped that students will learn by reading articles which interest them, and will acquire a lot of new vocabulary and specific language points that we might focus on in class. They will also learn from the experience of giving their own presentation. And they will gain oral fluency by discussing issues with the teacher and other students. Lastly, but not least, they will be listening all the time to each other and the teacher.

【学習形態】

All areas of language will be used. Students will listen, present and discuss, and they will study the content of the magazine. They should take time to learn vocabulary. However, they will not be expected to write, other than simple notes, or what is necessary for giving their presentation.

Students will improve reading fluency and increase their vocabulary. They will also gain confidence in giving presentations and expressing opinions in discussion. They will also sharpen listening skills, and learn to write communicatively.
