【学習内容 Contents】

This course is designed for those who have started studying Japanese and wish to develop their language skill through enjoyable and effective practice.Students will learn fundamental structures as well as vocabulary and expressions in everyday situations.Some basic kanji related to each chapter will be covered.Students are expected to read hiragana and katakana and to understand some basic grammar points such as the “te form”.

After explanations of grammar by the instructor, students will practice new expressions through a variety of communicative activities.Students will have many chances to communicate in Japanese through pair/group work, role play, etc.. Also students will practice listening in each chapter of the textbook.

This course (Japanese Basic 2) aims at enabling the students to complete the elementary-level study of Japanese. Students are expected to practice Japanese in real-life situations. This course is designed for students who wish to develop basic language skills to cultivate overall Japanese-language ability. We will focus on speaking and listening activities with other students in the class (eg. pair or group work, role plays etc.) with the aims of improving communication skills in real life situations. Students who take this course are expected to read hiragana and katakana and also understand some important basic grammar points including the conjugated verb forms such as the “te-form” and the “plain -forms”.

【学習内容 Contents】

This course aims to provide students with a smooth transition from elementary to intermediate level Japanese and is suitable for those who want to expand their knowledge of grammar while also reviewing basic sentence patterns. Classes will include exercises for students to improve their speaking and listening skills as well as to become accustomed to reading and writing short texts. Various topics in the textbook will help students better communicate in common situations using appropriate expressions and vocabulary. The course also aims to help students raise their sociocultural awareness in communicating in Japanese. Students intending to take this course are expected to read basic kanji (assistance provided if necessary).
NB: This course will not focus on kanji study.

After brief explanations of the grammar points by the instructor, students will practise new expressions through a variety of communicative activities. 【学習内容 Contents】

This course is designed for the students who have completed elementary level Japanese and wish to master conversational expressions that are useful in a business environment. Through this course the students will be able to learn the expressions in various actual business situations according to their needs. eg. introducing themselves, meeting people, making requests or appointments and telephoning etc., both within the company and outside the company. This will also include the making use of polite expressions which are important for more effective business communication in Japan.
Also how to write E-mails in Japanese will be briefly introduced in the course. This course should be suitable for business people, company trainees and also undergraduates who seek employment in Japanese firms.

This course is suitable for those who have studied elementary level Japanese and who wish to develop their reading skills in Japanese at an intermediate level. The main emphasis will be placed on providing students with various strategies to read texts not on a sentence-by-sentence basis but with a particular emphasis on text structures. Students will also be required to pay attention to the written style of the Japanese language. Students intending to take this course are expected to read basic kanji (assistance provided if necessary).

Before each class, a reading material is provided for students to read as homework. In class, the teacher will help with new vocabulary, grammar and expressions introduced in the articles as well as strategies to read in Japanese effectively. Students will also have opportunities to discuss the topics in the readings with other classmates.

毎回(まいかい)、読み物の宿題(しゅくだい)があります。クラスで教師(きょうし)は、読むためのストラテジーや読み物に出てくる新しい語彙(ごい)や文法(ぶんぽう)、表現(ひょうげん)の説明(せつめい)をします。また、読み物のトピックについて、他(ほか)のクラスメートと話す時間もあります。
