Photo Exhibition "Mother Teresa-Saint from Skopje, Saint of the World"

At Sophia University Yotsuya Campus from Nov 28 to Dec 8

Photo exhibition "Mother Teresa-Saint from Skopje, Saint of the World" will be held at Sophia University Yotsuya Campus from Nov 28 to Dec 8.

In this exhibition tracing the life of Mother Teresa, photos from the collection by the Memorial House of Mother Teresa in Skopje, Macedonia will be introduced. Additionally, photos and documents of the renowned Japanese photographer Tsunehiko Momose and friends of Mother Teresa will be available for viewing.

Born in Skopje (currently the Republic of Macedonia), Mother Teresa left home to a convent at the age of 18 and later started her service based in Kolkata, East India where she was dispatched. After she founded the Missionaries of Charity in the early 1950’s, she went on to open the "Home for the Dying" and many other nursing homes and schools. In recognition of her works, Mother Teresa received the Noble Peace Prize in 1979. Furthermore, she was canonized as a Saint by the Catholic Church in 2016. In 1981, Mother Teresa visited Sophia University and gave a speech titled "What is Beautiful?". Her visits to the university followed in 1982 and 1984.

This photo exhibition was initiated by the visit of Her Excellency Andrijana Cvetkovik, Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Sophia University on April this year. Sophia University is also in the process of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation with Ss.Cyril and Methodius University, which will be Sophia’s first partner institution in Macedonia.
