
On September 6 Natsuki Yasuda, a photojournalist, received the 8th Yonosuke Natori Photographic Award. She graduated from the Department of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences in 2010.
The Yonosuke Natori Photographic Award is an award presented by the Japan Professional Photographers Society (JPS) to promising photographers younger than 30 years of age. The aim of this Award is to scout and nurture young talents specialized in documentary photography. For young photographers this Award is the gateway to success and fame.
Ms. Yasuda’s prize winning work “Born with HIV-HIV Orphans in Uganda-” is 30 sets of images in full color. The press conference was held at JPS in Chiyodaku.
While she was still in university, her inspiring work has already been recognized by Ningenryoku Taisho sponsored by Junior Chamber International Japan and NPO Humanity Development Society. Ningenryoku Taisho is an award equivalent to People’s Honor Award only it is given to the outstanding and creative young men and women in various professions. Ms. Yasuda received Special Recognition Prize.
It’s been two years since she began visiting Uganda. What she has seen through the lens of her camera was the sufferings and the quiet strength of the people desperately trying to hold on to what was left of their lives. At the Press conference, she talked about her aspiration: “I will continue my work in Uganda and visit the same family and people and report what they are going through. I need to get to the essence of this tragedy.”
