The Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies at Sophia University and the Graduate School of Bio-Applications and Systems Engineering (BASE) at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) signed an agreement concerning a new collaboration between the two graduate schools. The signing ceremony took place at Sophia University on September 5.
The purpose of this agreement is threefold: to promote inter-college credit transfer system for students in the master’s and doctoral degree courses at either university; to admit special research students and auditing students to graduate courses available at either Sophia University or TUAT; and to join forces to broaden the scope of graduate education and research.
Both graduate schools have been shaping a new approach to find solutions to global issues in environment, energy, food, and water resources. In this situation, they strongly feel a need for a more integrated approach covering various domains of research ranging from natural sciences, human and social sciences to agriculture and engineering that directly relate to industry.
Our particular strengths in human and social sciences have prepared us well for handling the global strategy. TUAT Graduate School, on the other hand, is well known for its practical education and the combined discipline of agriculture and engineering has produced many graduates who are actively involved in the industry.
Combing these distinctive character features of the two graduate schools is the primary goal of the agreement. One of their major functions will be to foster highly skilled creative individuals who could launch a global initiative to come up with innovative solutions to the problems that mankind is facing.
The exchange is scheduled to start in October.
