The 5th Global Leadership Program for the Five Jesuit Universities in East Asia (GLP) has taken place at Yotsuya campus Monday, August 6 through Saturday, August 11. About 30 faculty members and students participated in the Program.
Member schools are the Jesuit institutions of higher learning in East Asia, namely, Sogang University in Korea, Fu Jen University in Taiwan, Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, and Sophia University in Japan. It all started in 2008 when Sophia University called for their participation in a program to carry out its major purpose of learning what it means by "international understanding." This year, we welcomed Sanata Dharma University in Indonesia to the Program as the fifth member university.
GLP is an event in which a selected group of students from respective universities comes together to discuss and examine current issues in depth and to find out what "international understanding" is all about.
The focus of this year's discussion was on "Recovery and Reconstruction in the aftermath of natural disasters." Students exchanged information about where their countries and areas stand on this issue. They conducted a lively discussion and everyone spoke his or her viewpoints candidly on a deeply rooted ideal of local people concerning recovery and reconstruction in their disaster-affected communities.
During the event, member universities strengthened their friendship and students learned that people around the world cannot function in isolation from one another.
