In April 2010 Sophia University and Sogang University have signed a basic agreement concerning college level sports and cultural exchanges, and we have been holding SOFEX, Sophia-Sogang Festival of Exchange annually ever since we signed the agreement. This year we have welcomed the opening of the third Festival and was held on the campus of Sogang University over the course of three days from Thursday, October 25 to Saturday, October 27. We had lots of events planned for SOFEX to strengthen the friendship between the two universities and bring about a deep understanding of Korea. The Festival turned out to be a precious experience for every participant.
Sogang University was established by the Society of Jesus in 1960. It is a university with a relatively short history but it prides itself on its prestigious name of being the only Jesuit Institution of higher education in Korea. It is one of the universities that rank at the top in Korea.
There are 23 Faculties and 10 interdisciplinary courses. About 8000 students and about 400 full-time faculty members are registered in the university. Its graduate school has 11 graduate courses including Professional Graduate School. There are 4000 students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs. Furthermore, about 3600 overseas students are studying in various courses. Sogang University is exerting every effort to improve their living environment by internationalizing its campus.
