
On February 11, the 7th Northern Thai Universities Japanese Speech Contest was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Sophia University is striving to promote to active interactions with the Northern Thailand and Mekong Region with the Global 30 project. Since last year, Sophia University has started new program which give the 1st prize winner of the contest an opportunity to study at Sophia University for one year. The winner receives a one-year study opportunity at Sophia University, a round-trip ticket to Japan, and a scholarship covering the student’s living expenses.

This year, 30 students out of 42 went to the finals and made a 5 minutes speech. The finalists were from about 10 universities which have department of Japanese Language in Northern Thailand such as Chiang Mai University. The finalists were judged on various criteria including pronunciation, deliverability, expression, composition, and contents of the speech.
Based on strict screening, Mr. Suparerk Plangsrinon from Chiang Mai University (Sophomore, Faculty of Humanities, Japanese major) won 1st prize Sophia University Official Websitein the contest. Tilted “Secret of a Train”, he expressed brevity for a non-regrettable life and importance of being active from a point of a young person.
