Dear Graduating Students and Guarantors
Sophia University faculties and staff extend our sincere heartfelt sympathies to the people suffering from the Tohoku district- Off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake. We also express our deepest condolences for the people who lost their lives and their families.
Sophia University has decided to cancel the Graduation Ceremonies for Undergraduate students (at Tokyo International Forum) and for Graduate students (Auditorium in Yotsuya Campus, Bldg. No.10), as well as the Commencement Mass that were scheduled on Wednesday, March 23. This decision was made as the results of the earthquakes that occurred on March 11, and situations following the earthquakes.
Sophia would like to ask for the understanding and cooperation of the graduating students and their families.
The Departmental Meetings held by each department and graduate school on Yotsuya Campus will be held as previously scheduled at 2:30p.m., Wednesday, March 23 (for FLA&FCC: room 195(1F) of the Building No.4, for GPGS: room 301(3F) of the Building No.10). The diploma will be presented to the graduating students at that time. In addition, the Doctoral degree diploma will be presented to the students at the President’s Office on 4F of the Building No. 2 at 2:30 p.m.
For safety reasons, attendance to the departmental meeting will be limited to graduating students only. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

In order to extend our thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected, and to put our educational goal, “Men and Women for Others, with Others,” into practice, the Sophia members (alumni, students, and faculty and staffs) will donate a part of the budget that was to be used for the Graduation Ceremony to the earthquake recovery.
The additional decisions about the supports from our university for this disaster will be updated on the website as soon as a decision is made.
Again, I pray for the people of the disaster-struck areas, and hope we can recover from this difficult time as quickly as possible.
