Associate Professor Yumiko Suzuki won the 6th Shiseido Female Researcher Science Grant

Associate Professor Yumiko Suzuki

Dr. Yumiko Suzuki, Associate Professor of the Department of Materials and Life Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, was honored with the award in the 6th Shiseido Female Researcher Science Grant. This grant-in-aid for women researchers was initiated by Shiseido Co., Ltd. in 2007 with the purpose of nurturing female researchers who will take the role of respected leaders in the field of natural science. Each year 10 female researchers are chosen as recipients of a monetary award of one million yean.   Professor Suzuki is the second person from Sophia University to receive the grant after Associate Professor Yuko Takeoka in the Faculty of Science and technology.

The title of the award-winning paper is Synthesis of Drug Candidate Compounds through Organocatalysis. The award gave recognition to her outstanding achievements in developing new medicine for curing cancer and treating other infectious diseases.

Dr. Suzuki made the following comments upon receiving the grant: “I ma very pleased that I was honors with award for my research endeavors. The grant money will certainly help improve the research environment and develop our research. I hope to see each of my students grow up to be a leading researcher and demonstrate their scientific knowledge for this is what this Science Grant is all about.”
