Warming up…
In March, 35 young Russian kendoka who belong to Russian Kendo Federation were invited to Japan under the sponsorship of Japan Russia Youth Exchange Center. This was an eight-day program to promote mutual understanding and friendly relations between youth of both countries. Four days through March 15 to 17 were spent at Sophia University with Sophia Kendo Club and students in the Department of Russian Studies in the Faculty of Foreign Studies.
Practicing suburi skills
Russian kendoka and Sophia students spent practicing kendo together everyday and the Sophia students showed them around the city on the 15th. On the 16th a kendo meet was held in which Russian and Sophian kendoka exchanged their techniques and mastery of swordsmanship.
