“A Summer Prayer” is a documentary movie about the oldest survivors of atomic explosion who share their lives together in a special nursing home called “The Hill of Grace Nagasaki A-Bomb Home,” the largest of its kind in the world.
This film documents the incessant efforts of these elderly victims to hand down the recounting of their A-Bomb experiences to elementary, junior and high school students by putting them into a play.
After movie showing, the symposium was held with Mr, Katsumi Sakaguchi, director-producer of the movie, as a moderator. Mr. Akira Shikayama (Chief Counselor of the A-Bomb Home) and Professor Ichiro Mitsunobu, Dean of Faculty of Theology at Sophia University were guest speakers. Mr. Shikayama talked about the present situation of the Home, and how the residents felt about the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The film will have its premiere on August 4 at Nagasaki Central Theater and will be released throughout Japan starting August 11.
“A Summer Prayer” is recommended by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan and chosen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for a wide general audience,.
