On April 12, project members of the Strengthening Higher Education Project in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Dr.Phonephet Boupha (Director General, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Lao PDR), Dr.Sikhamtath Mitaray (President, Champasak University), Dr.Soukkongseng Saignaleuth (President, National University of Laos), Dr.Khamphay Sisavanh (President, Souphanouvong University), visited Sophia University.

Sophia University has concluded the agreement of the Strengthening Higher Education Project with Ministry of Education of Lao PDR in July, 2011. Although there are 5 national universities in Lao PDR, all of them were established within 15 years so that there are still a few faculty members who hold Master’s or Doctorial degree. With that background, it has become an urgent matter for Ministry of Education of Lao PDR to strengthen their higher education system.
The aim of this project is to assist the development of human resources in the field of higher education in Lao PDR. Based on our educational motto “Men and Women for Others, with Others”, we agree to cooperate on this project with Asian Development Bank.
Based on this agreement, we have just accepted 3 students from Lao PDR since 2012 spring semester. This visit is to discuss further development of this project and solidify cooperative relationship between us.
This semester, Graduate School of Human Sciences (Program in Education), Graduate School of Global Studies, and Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies accepted 3 faculty members of Laos National Universities. Each of students in this project is highly motivated to maximize the use of accumulated knowledge for helping their own country develop in the future.
