Keiichi Yasu and Mee Sonu in the Faculty of Science and Technology received their Phonetic Society of Japan Award for Excellence

Keiichi Yasu

At the 26th Annual Convention of the Phonetic Society of Japan held on September 30, the Award for Excellence was presented to Keiichi Yasu, a project research assistant, and Mee Sonu, a JSPS postdoctoral fellowships for foreign researchers, in the Faculty of
Science and Technology.

The Phonetic Society of Japan Award for Excellence is an award that gives recognition to an excellent presentation given by chief presenter of their research work. The recipients of the award must be graduate students or researchers younger than 40 years of age.

Mee Sonu

The award winning research paper of Mr. Yasu was presented in 2011 and is entitled Cue Trading in the Perception of Initial Fricatives/Affricates: Focusing on Duration and Amplitude of Frication.

Ms. Sonu's award winning research paper, Evaluation of Japanese Phonemic Length Contrasts Produced by Non-native Speakers based on Timing Control Characteristics, was presented in 2012.
