Contents:
This course is designed for those who have started studying Japanese and wish to develop their language skill through enjoyable and effective practice.Students will learn fundamental structures as well as vocabulary and expressions in everyday situations.Some basic kanji related to each chapter will be covered.Students are expected to read hiragana and katakana and to understand some basic grammar points such as the “te form”.
Learning Method:
After explanations of grammar by the instructor, students will practice new expressions through a variety of communicative activities.Students will have many chances to communicate in Japanese through pair/group work, role play, etc.. Contents / Learning Method:
This course (Japanese Basic 2) aims at enabling the students to complete the elementary-level study of Japanese. Students are expected to practice Japanese in real-life situations. This course is designed for students who wish to develop basic language skills to cultivate overall Japanese-language ability. We will focus on speaking and listening activities with other students in the class (eg. pair or group work, role plays etc.) with the aims of improving communication skills in real life situations. Contents:
This course aims to provide students with a smooth transition from elementary to intermediate level Japanese and is suitable for those who want to expand their knowledge of grammar while also reviewing basic sentence patterns. Classes will include exercises for students to improve their speaking and listening skills as well as to become accustomed to reading and writing short texts. Various topics in the textbook will help students better communicate in common situations using appropriate expressions and vocabulary. The course also aims to help students raise their sociocultural awareness in communicating in Japanese. Students intending to take this course are expected to read basic kanji (assistance provided if necessary).
NB: This course will not focus on kanji study.
Learning Method:
After brief explanations of the grammar points by the instructor, students will practise new expressions through a variety of communicative activities. Students will also practise listening in each chapter of the textbook Students will be expected to actively participate in various class activities such as pair/group
work where they use Japanese with other members of the class as well as the instructor. Most of the class is conducted in Japanese.
Goals:
By the end of this course, students will have developed an ability to better express themselves using a range of expressions that are appropriate in common social situations.

Before each class, a reading material is provided for students to read as homework.
