Sophia University has continued to turn out bright young graduates capable and committed to make significant advances in the future generation. In 2013 Sophia celebrates its centennial and we intend to work even harder to provide our unique education based on the founding spirit of the university, and worthy of international recognition as a “world-ranked institution”. This is our Sophia Model, a model we aim to realize through the three core values.
First, we cultivate the spirit of determination to serve others and the society with Christian humanism, a compassion for fellow humans. The educational motto of Sophia University “Men and Women for Others, with Others” teaches our students to become an active part of global challenges to solve issues of poverty, starvation, environment and discrimination, while pursuing their own goals and interests.
Second, we teach students to acquire true wisdom to address unprecedented issues that require more than mere knowledge and skills. Sophia University has a total of 8 Faculties, 28 Departments, all assembled in our Yotsuya Campus to offer a wide range of specialized education. The accessibility creates a thorough system to help develop and implement improved specialized education based on our educational innovation programs and to build a network to support interdisciplinary studies that allows students to expand their academic horizons to adjacent fields. This creates a new academic synergy that elevates the excellence in comprehensive problem solving.
Third, we develop abilities to address the global society. Intensive language education, overseas study programs, academic exchanges and a campus with a diverse community shared by international students from all over the world help to deepen the understanding of other cultures and to develop qualities that will allow students to play an active role in an evolving global society.
