Institute of Christian Culture
Founded in 1969, this institute underwent reorganization in 1997. Besides carrying out wide-ranging research into many aspects of Christianity including its cultural heritage and development, this institute focuses on specialized research into a variety of eastern religions.
Institute of Medieval Thought
Established in 1976, this institute is deeply rooted in Sophia's Christian culture and spirit, and plays a core role in Japan in promoting the study of European Medieval philosophy and theology.
Iberoamerican Institute
Established in 1964, the Iberoamerican Institute is primarily involved in the promotion of research into Central and South American affairs.
Linguistic Institute for International Communication
Focusing on international exchange related to foreign language education and linguistic research carried out in Japan, this institute was established in 1978 to promote East-West cultural exchanges and engage in research on a host of linguistic themes.
Institute for the Study of Social Justice (ISSJ)
Set up in 1981, the ISSJ conducts interdisciplinary studies of diverse problems related to justice both in Japan and all over the world, and attempts to use its findings as a basis for practical activities.

This institute was founded in 1981 to promote research and learning in comparative culture. It holds seminars and lectures on a wide range of topics, including a series of regular seminars for executives of foreign companies operating in Japan.
European Institute
Established in 1981, this institute works to promote general and academic research into the culture of German speaking areas.

Founded in 1982, the Institute of Asian Cultures is devoted to the study of various aspects of traditional cultures throughout Asia, with a special focus on Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.

Institute for Studies of the Global Environment
In response to the increasing interest in environment-related fields, this institute was set up in 1999 to provide opportunities for interdisciplinary and multifaceted research into global environmental issues.
Kirishitan Bunko Library
Founded by the late Rev. Fr.Laures in 1957, Kirishitan Bunko houses a huge archive of Christian manuscripts including historical documents and records related to culture exchanges between east and west. It is widely used by scholars researching Christian history.
Monumenta Nipponica
Monumenta Nipponica is an English-language quarterly that has been published by Sophia University since 1938. It has been renowned internationally as a source of information on Japanese culture since before the Second World War.
Sophia Asia Center for Research and Human Development
Based on Sophia's "spritit of generous academic service, the center has a dual mission that involves both research and development activities: working and studying together with the people in the region, it works to develop human resources and also undertake collaborative works.
The center is mainly located in Siem Reap, Cambodia, near the Angkor Wat World Heritage Site.
